BRIEF INTRODUCTION

Hydrogen is used in chemical, oil refining, metallurgical and electronics industries. Hydrogen production through cracking of methanol instead of electrolysis of water could cut costs. The “development of the environment-friendly energy-savings process and supporting catalyst for hydrogen production through the reforming of methanol water vapor” won third prize for S&T progress in Sichuan province in 2007.

PERFORMANCE FEATURES

During hydrogen production through the cracking of methanol and water complete cracking in one time through gasification and catalysis to generate the mixed gas of ~74 percent H2 and ~24 percent CO2. The range of H2 yield is 88~92 percent (adopting advanced special-purpose adsorbent and process). The range of H2 purity is 99.9~99.999 percent. The range of H2 pressure is 0.5~2.2MPa (no compressor is needed). The byproduct of CO2 can be used as a food additive, tobacco shreds bulking agent and welding shielding gas. The process features a simple operation, no pollution and energy conservation.

The catalyst used for hydrogen production through cracking of methanol is characterized by a long service life, high activity, high selectivity, low bulk density and CO content that is below 0.5 percent in the cracking gas.
